Why I Teach
I’ll never forget the day I was extended an invitation to teach with Metro Nashville Public Schools. It was truly a transitional period, as I was currently teaching middle school in another state and shifting to teaching elementary. My relocation was made smoothly by the professional development that was provided before I started the school year. I was mostly impressed with the level of engagement the District initiated, which eventually transcended to the school level. In comparison to other school districts, Metro Nashville Public Schools have always offered next level opportunities for both students and teachers. The innovative gifts that flow throughout our District are immeasurable. I am blessed to work with such ingenious colleagues and students who inspire me every day to exceed what is expected.
Since joining the District 16 years ago, I have truly evolved as a committed educator. My diverse training spans over 4 schools and 3 zones/clusters. These experiences have made me more openminded and more sensitive to the needs of all students in the District. This forces us to take an active approach to implementing visions and goals to help students become successful in whichever path they choose. Constantly reflecting upon my “why” as an educator, keeps me motivated to put forth my best work. Our MNPS educators are not detoured from challenges that may plague our District, even when considering the weight of knowing that we shape and mold the minds of future leaders. If anything, it increases our work ethic to ensure that our students are equipped and prepared to thrive in society. I’m proud to be connected to such a diverse district that continues to work towards excellence at every level.
